If you are travelling into town and not up for a road trip, please see below for various options to arrive into to Erie.
OPTION 1: FLY DIRECTLY INTO ERIE (ERI)
American offers a twice daily flights from Charlotte to Erie, so if you are open to a connection, this is your most hassle-free way to travel into town.
OPTION 2: FLY INTO BUFFALO (BUF) & DRIVE 1.5 HOURS TO ERIE
Flying into Buffalo gives you more flexibility in terms of airlines and times, including lots of options on Southwest! It’s a really easy airport to navigate and our favorite option when flying in and out of town. There are a number of rental car options available from the airport and the drive to Erie is very straightforward.
OPTION 3: FLY INTO CLEVELAND (CLE) & DRIVE ~2 HOURS TO ERIE
Cleveland is serviced by a number of airlines and another option for accessing Erie. Renting a car in CLE is a bit of a process as the rental car area is offsite and requires a shuttle. Still worth it if you can get a good flight!
OPTION 4: TAKE THE AMTRAK INTO ERIE (CHICAGO VISITORS ONLY)
Last Christmas Eve, Kath and Mike took the overnight Amtrak from Chicago to Erie and found it to be a manageable experience! The trip is ~9 hours and departs daily from Union Station at 9:30pm, arriving into downtown Erie at 7:30am. Private rooms accommodate 2 adults and are highly encouraged. It’s not the Orient Express, but it’s not bad to go to sleep in Chicago and wake up in Erie.
